Bein ha-Meitzarim

5-6 pm "Judah has gone into exile because of suffering and harsh toil. She dwelled among the nations but found no rest; all her pursuers overtook her in the narrow straits.” Lamentations 1:3

The three weeks leading up to Tisha B’av are known as “Bein ha-Meitzarim” or ‘in the narrow straits.” It has historically been a time of distress and danger for our people, with many of the greatest tragedies in our past have occurs. Spiritually, it can be seen as a time of ‘getting stuck’ in our own narrow places, of getting trapped in straits of our own making. At this service, we will use Jewish meditation and chanting to express our hopes for healing and explore our ‘narrow places,’ and we will honor the new month, Rosh Chodesh Av, and the longest days of summer. (Because the sun doesn’t set until 8:30, we will not be having Havdalah together.)
