10:30-noon TORAH STUDY. Parashat Re’eh Deut 11:26 – 16:17
What were the actual religious practices against which the Biblical writers inveighed? Rabbi Edleson has studied and taught Ancient Near Eastern religions and literature, and using the Torah portion as our starting point, we will explore, using recent scholarship, the relationship between Israelite religion and those around it. Our Torah study is interactive and vibrant, combining traditional commentaries on the text with the latest scholarly research and insights into the culture, practices and world-view of the Biblical world. All are welcome regardless of faith or religiosity.
7:30 pm ROSH CHODESH ELUL - HAVDALAH
The Rosh Chodesh service is central to both Jewish mysticism and Jewish feminism. Come learn about Rosh Chodesh and join us for a short service and discussion, followed by the beautiful Havdalah ceremony.
(If you want to get on the e-mail list for Torah Study, just send a note to firstname.lastname@example.org. Each week, Rabbi Edleson sends out modern translations of the portion, and some questions to whet the appetite to learn. )
