“Breaking the Silence,” screened on July 31 by the White Mountain Jewish Film Festival, documents musician Janice Ian’s fearlessly sassy life. Beginning her first hit, “Society’s Child” the film chronicles her life of performance and songwriting with much genuine, historical footage.. It is mini-history of American culture from the early 60s to today.
North Country Community Radio DJ Ericka Cushing introduced the film with an enthusiastic endorsement of Ian's talent and a lament on the continued difficulties faced by women trying to succeed In the music industry.
