Toldot Wells - A Judith Felsen Poem
Toldot Wells
In the season of a drought
it is my thirst for You that spurs my journey.
In honoring Your borders and instructions
for my walk among the lands which lie within,
Ancient stone well. source: www.greecehighdefinition.com
I see all paths begin and end with You.
My soul does recognize its choice
for drought or irrigation on the way and sees both sides.
In the end, the final step is sure as You are there in both.
The choice I make is for Your blessing
or a lesson
each teaches to return to You.
My father’s wells concealed and then revealed
speak to such love in time and timelessness.
It is all care and use of them and
of their springs that varies.
And yet to quench my thirst for You,
I must follow You myself to find and dig my wells
to integrate Your blessing as my own.
Process on the way reveals that
conflict, hate, and struggle can produce the deepest clearest wells
if one lays low while digging deep with both knees bent.
My head is bowed, my heart is open, my thirst is quenched.
