In this richly researched book, Cockerell draws on newspaper accounts, letters, memoirs, speeches, documents, and interviews to trace the development of the Zionist movement and the early ideas that contributed to the founding of today’s Jewish state. Among the fascinating stories she uncovers are the 1907 plans to establish a Jewish homeland in Galveston, Texas.
