2025 WMJF Closes Season with “Treasure”
The White Mountain Jewish Film Festival wrapped up its 2025 season with a September 4 screening of "Treasure" at the Colonial Theatre. The evening started with a patio party generously hosted by Jessie Knapp and Mark Mendelsohn with help from Sharon Heyman and Barry Zitser. Mark was especially proud to share a green wine he brought especially for the party. The weather was pleasant and attendance was good; it was a warm and friendly conclusion to the WMJFF season.
The film follows Ruth, a music journalist who takes her Holocaust survivor father Edek back to Poland to visit sites from his past, including Auschwitz. The story explores the relationship between the daughter and father as they navigate Poland in the 1990s, with Edek often resistant to confronting his traumatic memories.
Guest speaker Lori Lefkowitz, Ruderman Professor and Director of the Jewish Studies Program and Director of the Humanities Center at Northeastern University, introduced the film. After the screening, attendees participated in a discussion about the film's themes of family, memory, and how different generations process Holocaust history.
